Interface Management Definitions
The core terms you will meet when setting up interface management on a project.
Interface
A point where two parties depend on each other — a deliverable, a physical connection, information, or a decision.
Interface Point
The specific technical or physical location of an interface (for example, a tie-in between two work packages).
Interface Agreement
A record confirming both parties understand and accept their responsibilities for an interface.
Interface Request (IR)
A formal request from one party to another for information or action needed to resolve an interface.
Interface Register
The master list of all interfaces on the project, with owners, counterparts, dates and status.
Close-out
The point at which an interface request is fulfilled, accepted and formally completed.
Interface Coordinator
The person within a company responsible for managing its interface requests day to day.
